Raung is one of Java's island active volcano. It lies east of Bondowoso – East Java on the edge of the giant ancient, Ijen Crater and has a caldera with size 750 m x 2,250 m, 500 m depth surrounded by a grayish rim.
The difference in color of the rim and the flanks of the volcanoes is caused by the rim’s lack of vegetation compared with the healthy and extensive vegetation on the flanks. Raung is the tallest volcano of this cluster. Although the valleys between the major volcanoes boast fertile, ash-enriched soil for agriculture, available land is very limited
Raung is an old mount and surrounded by many hills and several volcanic cones : G.Suket (2950 m) at the north, G.Lempeh (2932 m) at the northeast, G.Jampit (2338 m) at the east, G.Wates (2796 m) at the south, G.Gadung (2390 m) and G.Payungan (2352 m) at the west. The panorama looks beautiful and fantastic. The scenery is very interesting as there are many types of plants and animals
The tourist can climb this mountain begin from “Pesanggrahan Sumber Wringin” which provides a number of guides who are ready to give services to hikers
